The Cooper Wagon Works building located at 3rd and Main Streets, was one of the first major rehabilitation projects to take place in downtown Dubuque. The building was originally constucted as a shop that manufactured horse-pulled wagons. In 2001, developers had a vision to rehabilitate the building into an entertainment complex including nightclubs, restaurants, and a banquet hall. Dubuque Initiatives facilitated the property transfer of the building. Today its historical charm is enjoyed by the restaurant patrons who enter its threshold as well as residents in the upper apartments. The adjacent parking lot is still owned by Dubuque Initiatives and leased to the city for metered parking.
