Facing mounting facility maintenance obstacles in its 130-year-old facility, Flexsteel Industries, Inc. announced in 2016 its intent to close the Jackson Street facility and relocate. While the company’s desire was to stay in Dubuque, it was presented with incentive offers to relocate outside of our community. In cooperation with numerous state and local partners, Dubuque Initiatives is playing a significant role keeping Flexsteel Industries in Dubuque and are maintaining 200 jobs. Dubuque Initiatives will accept ownership of the 43-acre site and manage the demolition of the structures and environmental remediation of the site. Dubuque Initiatives will apply for state and federal grants to assist in funding. Ultimately, Dubuque Initiatives will prepare the site to be sold for light industrial redevelopment.
